The AIA Chicago has just opened the public voting phase for its 2024 Lerch Bates People's Choice Awards. Winners will be announced on September 5th as part of the Designight 2024 presentation ceremony from the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.

This year, docents from the Chicago Architecture Center selected from more than 200 submitted projects to place finalists in ten categories. The list includes headline projects like the new Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Each is said to be representative of the global design influence of Chicago architects. You guys remember that award winner a few years ago in Chicago, the yellow and blue swoopy building, for which they had ‘shopped out the HVAC units on the roof for their submission? It led to a pretty intense conversation about what is appropriate to change in photographs for submissions for awards? I drove by it last Friday and yeah, those mechanical units really mess up the view!
