No Clear Winner (yet) in Kosovo's Central Mosque of Prishtina Competition

By Bustler Editors|

Thursday, Apr 18, 2013

No first prize but two tied second prizes were given to the entries 21PR22 and 1025AC

The jury of the international architecture competition to design the Central Mosque of Prishtina, Kosovo has announced its verdict: no single first prize but two tied second prizes and one third prize were awarded.

"This Mosque shall be a place where understanding, humanity, tolerance, respect and sincere love shall be cultivated and where enlightening values shall be brought forward," remarked the Grand Mufti of the Republic of Kosovo, Naim Tërnava, in his call for design proposals.

From the jury report:

136 freelance and companies were registered for the competition from which 81 submitted their projects on time.

Tied 2nd Prize: 21PR22

After carefully conducted evaluation of the 81 received entries, our decision is that no any entry is meritorious to be awarded with the first prize. During four sessions, five of the entries were chosen by the jury members for further evaluation. During the following three on-line sessions three entries were selected to be awarded.

Finally, the Jury anonymously decided to give two second prizes to entries with codes 21PR22 and 1025AC, and third prize to the entry with code  487DH.

Tied 2nd Prize: 1025AC

The organizer of the competition, The Islamic Community of the Republic of Kosovo, will invite the authors of entries 21PR22 and 1025AC to accept the Jury suggestions and, if they agree, to improve their design proposals in one month period. After that, the jury will select a design which will go further into a design implementation phase.

3rd Prize: 487DH

The jury was comprised of Amir Pašić, Naim Tërnava, Sabri Bajgora, Ibrahim Numan, Attilio Petruccioli, Muhamet Morina, and Jusuf Xhibo.
