See New York radically transformed in the "Building Tomorrow" exhibition, opening April 4 in NYC

Already making weekend plans? If you're based in New York, maybe you ought to stop by the "Building Tomorrow" exhibition opening tomorrow April 4 until April 6 at 168 Bowery in NYC.

Presented by BBC.com Future and Terreform ONE — a non-profit organization for philanthropic architecture and urban, ecological design — the limited-time public exhibition invites New Yorkers to catch a glimpse of what their city could look like in the next few decades.

Find more details below.

”'Building Tomorrow' presents radical visions of New York that illustrate not only the huge challenges we face, but also the opportunities that could materialize if we push the limits of what’s possible. What will cities look like as a result? What new technologies can we harness to sustain growing populations? How will we live, travel and operate in the urban environment"

"The exhibit — the latest creation from Terreform — attempts to answer some of these questions and imagines an urban industrial site in Brooklyn with a self-sustained working waterfront as the center for clean industries that are incubators for new technologies."

"The designed landscape has adapted to local climate dynamics and is outfitted for a living infrastructure to seamlessly connect land and water."

"'This exhibit embodies BBC Future’s mandate to challenge and inspire audiences with provocative  ideas in innovation and technology as they relate to our communities,' commented Nick Ascheim, SVP Consumer Digital, BBC Worldwide North America."

“'Our design practice focuses on the act of invention today in order to have an impact in the future,' said Maria Aiolova, LEED AP, Co-founder and Director of Education, Terreform ONE.  'Using collaborative approach at the Brooklyn Navy Yard enables us to generate the unconventional inventions urgently needed in the age of climate crisis and natural resource scarcity.'"

The re-imagined Brooklyn Navy Yard will be on display at 168 Bowery (corner of Bowery and Kenmare) as follows:

  • Friday, April 4 from 12pm-9pm
  • Saturday, April 5 from 12pm-9pm
  • Sunday, April 6 from 12pm-6pm
