Famed architect Norman Foster and acclaimed contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto each formally accepted the inaugural Isamu Noguchi Award during the Noguchi Museum's annual Spring Benefit in New York yesterday.

The award is presented to individuals whose work exhibits the multi-disciplinary and collaborative qualities reflected in those of iconic landscape architect and artist Isamu Noguchi. Noguchi was known for promoting the value of innovation, global consciousness, and Japanese/American exchange in his work.

More than 300 guests -- including artists, Museum patrons, UN officials, and other notable representatives in the arts and cultural community -- attended the event. Ambassador Motohide Yoshikawa, Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations, presented the award to Foster and Sugimoto during the awards program. Finally, the night ended with a silent auction of one of Sugimoto's black-and-white photographs from his Conceptual Forms series.
