The Qatar World Cup Memorial project by 1Week1Project raises awareness on the terrible fact that over 500 Nepalese workers have lost their lives while constructing the 2022 World Cup stadiums in Qatar. Needless to say, this has brought outcry and investigations on the workers' safety -- as well as (disappointing) indifference from one of the stadium's architects, Zaha Hadid.
The Memorial project is a tower made of numbered concrete modules that represent every single deceased worker. This tower is one you definitely wouldn't want to grow taller.
Read more about it below.
"This structure offers Nepalese and Indian families as well as families of other nationalities a site for mourning removed from Qatar’s cities and skyscrapers. The project has a multitude of itineraries for visiting, on a basis of four modules per floor and two staircases per module. The cranes remain positioned in altitude until 2022. If the death rate is not reduced, the Qatar World Cup Memorial could reach a height of 1.5 kilometers (nearly a mile)."
