Entrants showcase potential for Nine Elms to Pimlico Pedestrian Bridge over London's River Thames

The London Borough of Wandsworth launched a competition back in December inviting multidisciplinary teams worldwide to design a concept for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge across London's River Thames, between the Nine Elms and Pimlico districts.

The organizers are not looking to select a specific design, but rather to find the best team who shows the strongest potential to design the landmark bridge -- including interacting with communities on both sides of the river.

More details below.

Technical awareness and design innovation are the crucial elements in Stage 1. Then by Stage 2, the shortlisted teams -- who will be paid an honorarium -- will develop their design ideas for the actual site, and will interact with the client and key stakeholders on both sides of the river. The broader community can also learn about the project in the public exhibitions during both stages.

Once the winning proposal is announced this July, it will become a basis to explore possible design options for construction of the new bridge. As of now, the bridge has a projected overall capital budget of around £40m.

A Jury Panel chaired by Graham Stirk of Rogers Stirk Harbour will evaluate the submissions in both competition stages.
