A peek at AEROLINER3000, a Tomorrow's Train Design Today finalist scheme for UK's railway

Munich-based Andreas Vogler Studio + German Aerospace Center Institute of Vehicle Concepts DLR from Stuttgart is one of three finalists in the Tomorrow's Train Design Today competition in the UK.

The RSSB and Network Rail-funded Future Railway Programme -- in conjunction with the Department for Transport (DfT) and RIBA -- held a global call for proposals for design solutions that would improve traffic flow across the UK railway network. From 48 entries, 10 were shortlisted to further develop their schemes from August 2014 to January 2015.

Just like the other two finalists 42 Technology (Cambridgeshire) and Priestman Goode (London), the Andreas Vogler team received further funding (from £2.2 million total available funds) to develop their double decker high-speed design, the AEROLINER3000.

Have a look at the proposal below.

Project summary: "Andreas Vogler and German Aerospace Center Institute of Vehicle Concepts DLR  successfully completed an in-depth feasibility study for the AEROLINER3000.

The AEROLINER 3000 follows the consequent application of light weight thinking into the train world. The development of a combination of many singular elements concerning aerodynamics, locomotion, structure, interactive control systems and even passenger psychology will be orchestrated under the umbrella of a modern design and engineering culture informed by consequent lightweight thinking."
