ChiDesign CADE winners reinvent the learning spaces of the future

By Bustler Editors|

Tuesday, Oct 13, 2015

The winners for the ChiDesign CADE competition have been announced!  As learning environments become more open and communally oriented, the Chicago Architecture Foundation launched the ideas competition as a means to explore possible models for future educational facilities. Participants put their creative design skills to the test by envisioning a new type of educational space called the Center for Architecture, Design and Education (CADE).

Read on for more.

CADE designs had to incorporate: a new headquarters, visitor center and exhibition spaces for the CAF; a new headquarters for the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH); a design and allied arts high school; and flexible learning spaces for out-of-school-time youth programs.

By the end of the competition, the jury (listed at the bottom) selected five winners. A student committee comprising of Chicago Public Schools high school students also had the opportunity to review submissions selected by the jury and then determine the Student Committee winners.

Scroll down to have a look at them.

  • David Adjaye, Adjaye Associates
