David Chipperfield picks three architecture finalists for the 2016-17 Rolex Arts Initiative

By Justine Testado|

Friday, Apr 15, 2016

The 2016 Rolex Arts Initiative architecture protege finalists (from L to R): Luis Callejas, Anna Puigjaner, Simon Kretz.

And then there were three. David Chipperfield, who is the 2016-17 architecture mentor in the Rolex Arts Initiative, recently selected his three finalists, who will compete to be the 2016 architecture protégé. The prestigious Rolex Arts Initiative program pairs emerging talents with well-known leading professionals in their respective artistic disciplines, which include Architecture, Film, Dance, Literature, Visual Arts, Music, and Theatre.

The 2016 architecture finalists are:

  • Luis Callejas, Colombia
  • Anna Puigjaner, Spain
  • Simon Kretz, Switzerland

In the coming weeks, Chipperfield will interview each finalist and select his protégé by June. Over the year-long collaboration, Chipperfield and the winner will collaborate on a project, working together for up to six weeks throughout the program. Each protégé receives 25,000 Swiss francs to support his or her participation in the mentorship, and an additional 25,000 Swiss francs will be granted for the realization of a new work by the end of the 2016-2017 cycle.
