It's award season at the Royal Institute of British Architects. Not long after the announcement of the RIBA National Award winners, RIBA is also one step further in their House of the Year competition. Most recently, the Institute revealed 20 houses in this year's longlist. Known as the Manser Medal until last year, the RIBA House of the Year Award still carries the same purpose of distinguishing the year's most innovative house designed by a UK-based architect.
This year's longlisted houses are dubbed with colorful names like the House of Trace, a Japanese-inspired terraced house extension; a new family home called Le Petit Fort; and a modern take on the traditional lean-to style called the Contemporary Lean-to.
Similar to last year's program, RIBA House of the Year will be part of a special four-week broadcast of BBC Channel 4's Grand Designs series. Grand Designs: House of the Year will be a weekly series that will feature a selection of the 2016 longlisted projects. Viewers would definitely want to tune in, since the program will also eventually announce the shortlisted and winning homes.
