MIT’s MSRED Program is the most concentrated, science-based graduate degree in real estate available. Launched in 1983 by the MIT Center for Real Estate, the MSRED is the first one-year degree of its kind, fulfilling a need for specialized education beyond the scope of the traditional MBA. The MSRED prepares men and women to compete in the global market with superior qualifications — providing the research-based expertise necessary to solve complex problems in contemporary real estate.

The MSRED Program assembles a small cohort of diverse professionals looking to enhance and accelerate their careers in the real estate industry. The MSRED student is entrepreneurial, innovative, and driven to evolve the industry. Students are prepared to enter careers at the forefront of the real estate industry through the interdisciplinary blend of practical and theoretical training offered by CRE faculty.

Drawing from disciplines such as architecture, law, engineering, urban planning, finance, and design, the MSRED program creates a holistic, well-rounded approach to the modern real estate industry. Students are exposed to current events, research, and challenges through courses, labs, forums, and alumni events. Up-close involvement with new research and industry leaders is a unique benefit of the MSRED experience.

Faculty associated with the Center also have appointments within the departments of Architecture, Urban Studies and Planning, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Economics, the Institute for Data, Systems and Society, and the MIT Sloan School of Management, providing an intellectual and multi-disciplined research focus on issues affecting the real estate industry.

Candidates for the MSRED degree come to the Program with several years of experience within the built environment. The program offers students a chance to sharpen their skills by working with other professionals of exceptional promise. Building partnerships that will last long after graduation, MSRED students learn team building in an international context, applying research to real-world problems in a disciplined and intellectual framework.
