Today, the Royal Institute of British Architects announced the shortlist of RIBA’s Special Awards which will be awarded alongside the Stirling Prize.
The RIBA/English Partnerships Sustainability Award
This award is given for the building that demonstrates most elegantly and durably the principles of sustainable architecture. The building industry produces half the world’s CO2. The award encourages architects and clients to go beyond the letter of the law, and make energy-efficient buildings which are also beautiful.
The award is judged by a panel of experts who consider the environmental credentials of schemes as submitted by the architects and clients; they revisit the schemes where necessary. The 2008 panel include Robin Nicholson of Edward Cullinan Architects, Patrick Bellew of Atelier Ten and Kevin McGeough of English Partnerships.
