Five emerging architects among 2017 MacDowell Colony fellows

For many artists, getting away from it all is necessary in the creative process. The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire offers this remote environment in their arts fellowship, which attracts hundreds of applications from artists working in architecture to non-fiction writing to music composition. Out of 706 applications for the summer fellowship, 69 artists representing seven disciplines — including five up-and-coming architects —  were awarded.

Averaging at $10,000 each, the fellowships provide recipients with a private studio for up to eight weeks, accommodations, three meals a day, and financial aid if needed. Fellows were selected “based solely on their talent” by a panel of leading professionals from each discipline.

“From Portugal to South Korea, and from Brooklyn to Israel, we will be welcoming artists creating in all disciplines,” MacDowell Colony Executive Director Cheryl A. Young stated. “From writers like Kathleen Tolan to visual artists like John O’Connor, this group will join the long list of MacDowell Fellows who have benefitted from having a dedicated space and the time to foster their creativity, and make work that engages audiences for generations.”

Here's the latest list of Fellows:
