Wondering where design-inclined folks are gathering around Greater Los Angeles? As the summer season gradually winds down, September also marks the beginning of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, which is celebrating Latin American art in dialogue with the city of Los Angeles. This week, Bustler picked out a few Pacific Standard Time-related events — plus a current WUHO Gallery exhibition —that are not to be missed! Check back regularly for more upcoming event recommendations.

A 5th Ecology | September 9-24

Currently at the WUHO Gallery, “A 5th Ecology” brings together over 25 architects, artists, and designers “to explore ways in which Reyner Banham’s reading of Los Angeles can inform our inquiry of the city today.” Contributors include Design, Bitches, Tim Durfee, Andrew Kovacs, Rios Clementi Hale, Fallen Fruit, Ilaria Mazzoleni & Marc Frohn, and more.

RELATED EVENT A 5th Ecology
The City of the Future: Hundred Story City in Neo-American Style Francisco Mujica (Mexican, 1899–1979). Offset lithograph in History of the Skyscraper (Paris: Archaeology & Architecture Press, 1929), pl. 134

The Metropolis in Latin America, 1830–1930 | September 16-January 7

Now open at The Getty, this exhibition “presents the colonial city as a terrain shaped by Iberian urban regulations, and the republican city as an arena of negotiation of previously imposed and newly imported models, which were later challenged by waves of indigenous revivals”. With photos, prints, plans, and maps, the exhibition covers the capitals of Buenos Aires, Havana, Lima, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago de Chile.

Tu casa es mi casa | September 23-January 17

Head over to the Neutra VDL House on Saturday night for the opening of “Tu casa es mi casa”. Presented by the L.A. Forum for Architecture and Urban Design, Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura, and the Neutra VDL Studio and Residences, the exhibition connects two modernist houses in Los Angeles and Mexico City via the exchange of texts, objects, and installations by contemporary writers and architects/artists.
