New York City's Archtober is now in full swing! From October 1-31, the citywide festival celebrates the significance of architecture and design in everyday life. 

For the seventh year in a row, Archinect & Bustler are proud to present Archtober's jam-packed roster of exhibitions, lectures, conferences, films, and tours across the five boroughs. From Archtober's lengthy calendar of events, we'll be picking out exciting weekly highlights. Plan ahead with our recommendations for Archtober Week 2, October 9-15.

Current Work: Stephen Kieran & James Timberlake | October 10

As part of The Architectural League's Current Work series, Stephen Kieran and James Timberlake of KieranTimberlake will present their firm’s work in a public lecture.

Van Alen Book Club: Welcome to Your World: How the Built Environment Shapes our Lives | October 10

Cognitive neuroscience and psychology meet architecture and cities in Welcome to Your World: How the Built Environment Shapes Our Lives, critic Sarah Williams Goldhagen’s latest publication. Join Van Alen Book Club for a discussion on why a wide audience—not only design specialists—should care about architecture, and how we all experience and actively shape environments.

An Inside Look at Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Newly Renovated Historic Palm House with Rockwell Group | October 10

Join Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Gonzalo Bustamante, a studio leader at Rockwell Group, for a special tour of the garden’s iconic Palm House, a 1917 glass-walled pavilion designed by McKim, Mead & White. Rockwell Group, which this year restored and reimagined the building, drew from the history of the century-old Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s history to update the space in a modern and fresh way.

Workplace Wednesdays: SHoP Architects | October 11

Come to SHoP for a tour of its Woolworth Building studios and a brief presentation by founding partner Corie Sharples, see the models produced in the firm’s in-house fab-lab, and find out why all the conference rooms are named after airplanes.

Archtober Party | October 12

To celebrate the month of Archtober, join Bespoke Careers and Archinect for our annual drinks party, taking place at the impressive Steelcase showroom in central New York.

Archtober Trivia Night | October 12

Do you fancy yourself a New York City history buff? Are you well versed in the minutiae of architectural history? Can you just not get enough of the NYC subway system? Then join fellow quizmasters at the Center for Architecture for the first annual Archtober Trivia Night! A group of experts will stump competitors as they contend for the ultimate bragging rights. Food and beverage included.

Design Fest at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum | October 14

Cooper Hewitt's annual week-long celebration of design begins with a day of free museum admission and hands-on activities led by National Design Award Winners. Children, teens, and adults are invited to play designer and tackle dynamic challenges in workshops throughout the museum.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum Film Screening | October 15

Enjoy a screening of the film "Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim Museum," followed by an engaging discussion and tour of the building led by architectural historian Neil Levine. Free with museum admission.
