Every year since 1981, the Australian Institute of Architects' National Architecture Awards distinguish talent in Australia's architecture scene, and competition continues to grow. This year reeled in 983 submissions of projects based throughout the continent. Out of 72 shortlisted projects, over 40 of them won awards.
“The jury gave preference to projects demonstrating the contribution architecture can make to the public good; projects that were inventive in their responses to context, site and program; and those that celebrated an understanding of materials and making,” said Ken Maher, jury chair and immediate past president of the Australian Institute of Architects.
