eVolo Magazine Announces 2019 Skyscraper Competition

The 2019 edition of the annual Skyscraper Competition organized by eVolo Magazine has just been announced and will run until January 2019. Each year the architecture and design publication makes a call to architects and designers around the globe to explore new concepts for vertical living. The competition is open to anyone, including students, young professionals, and established practices.

eVolo Magazine calls for ideas that redefine skyscraper design through the implementation of novel technologies, materials, programs, aesthetics, and spatial organizations along with studies on globalization, flexibility, adaptability, and the digital revolution- projects that examine the relationship between the skyscraper and the natural world, the skyscraper and the community, and the skyscraper and the city. The entries should react to the contemporary problems of urban living including exponential increase in population, scarcity of natural resources, social divisions, and environmental threats among others.

The Skyscraper Competition is also an opportunity for dialogue and critique. Each year, specialized and mainstream media outlets worldwide eagerly await the results. This phenomenon provides an opportunity to reach other areas of knowledge that contribute to the architectural discourse. 

What is a skyscraper in the 21st century? What are the historical, contextual, social, urban, and environmental responsibilities of these mega-structures? 

Winners, honorable mentions, and selected projects will be published in the forthcoming book eVolo Skyscrapers 4- the fourth book in the award-winning series that showcase the best projects submitted to the competition since 2006.
