Woburn Public Library Ideas Competition Announces Winners

By Bustler Editors|

Monday, Feb 16, 2009

The Woburn Public Library Expansion Ideas Competition recently revealed three winners and two honorable mentions. With 100 received proposals in total, the jury decided to award New York-based Lacina Heitler Architects with the first prize.

The intent of this ideas competition was to broaden the field of ideas through bold clear concepts (similar to a sketch problem charrette) for the restoration and expansion of this hostoric library building in Woburn, Massachusetts, point out the complexities and opportunities that are inherent when adding on to an historically and aesthetically significant building by a renowned architect of the 19th century, and to raise the awareness of this beautiful piece of architecture for the people of Woburn and others.

The presentation boards will be part of a traveling exhibition on the library.

First Prize:
Lacina Heitler Architects, New York, NY
Design Team: Josh Heitler, Brian Cuff, Doug Houstoun, Marina Yu, Ed Rojas, Kevin Denlinger and Aaron Whitney.
