Winners of the 2019 Australian National Architecture Awards

It's already that time of year when the Australian Institute of Architects announces the winning projects for the 2019 National Architecture Awards, which distinguishes top-notch projects throughout Australia.

The competition pool began with 185 eligible projects, which was then narrowed down to a shortlist of 78 projects across 14 categories that ranges from small projects to interior architecture to urban design. After a rigorous jury selection process, 35 projects received national awards, while another 12 outstanding examples received commendations. All Australian states and territories were represented in this year's winners.

“A number of themes emerged across all categories this year: projects that delivered worthy outcomes with little means; projects that demonstrated the value of architecture through public benefit; and projects with clear commitments to social and environmental sustainability,” said Clare Cousins, Immediate Past President of the Institute and Jury Chair, in a statement. “All these qualities make significant contributions to our cities and regional centers.”
