Architect and recent Whitney M. Young Jr. Award recipient Pascale Sablan has been named as one of the inaugural Anthem Awards winners by the prestigious Webby Awards program — now in its 26th year — honoring the efforts of community activists from across the globe who advocate for dispositive changes via their various online and digital media platforms.

Sablan is a Senior Associate with Adjaye Associates in New York City and the founder of Beyond the Built Environment (BBE), a (soon-to-be) non-profit organization that aims to address industry-wide disparities of race and gender through a variety of programming including public events, talks, an special exhibitions such as the ongoing SAY IT LOUD profile series that has included the works of more than 878 architects and designers to date.

Also recently announced as NOMA’s President-Elect for 2023–24, Sablan was the only professional architect on a list that included celebrity activists like Jane Goodall, international artists and entertainers like Laverne Cox and Takashi Murakami, and athletes like Megan Rapinoe and tennis star Naomi Osaka. Her organization took home three awards overall, with a pair of gold wins in the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Category’s Service and Research Projects/Publication subfields and a bronze win for its efforts in Community Outreach.

“More than ever, there has been a massive culture shift where humans worldwide have led and organized in new ways to build a more purpose-driven society,” Sablan wrote in an email announcement. “More than ever, people live their values and make active choices around the local and global impact of their daily actions — including the food they eat, the media they consume, the clothing they wear, the causes they support, and how they choose to spend their money.”

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Pascale Sablan was a Senior Associate at S9 Architecture (her previous employer). The text has been corrected to "Adjaye Associates."
