The shortlisted candidates for this year’s MJ Long Prize for Excellence in Practice and Moira Gemmill Prize for Emerging Architecture have been announced along with the winner of the brand new Prize for Research in Gender and Architecture, which is part of the W Awards for the first time this year.

The awards, a partnership between UK-based publications Architects’ Journal and The Architectural Review, also comprise the Ada Louise Huxtable Prize and Jane Drew Prize for Architecture, which last month were given to Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) founder Phyllis Lambert and SANAA co-founder Kazuyo Sejima respectively.

Manon Mollard, editor of The Architectural Review, added: "Part W’s actions are critical for shifting the lines and building a more equitable profession. The range of contributions and stories recounted on their first Women’s Work map highlights the many different ways in which women have helped shaped London and made it the city that it is today. Breaking from traditional mapping conventions and seeking to engage a broad audience, from schoolchildren to urban explorers, Women’s Work addresses the all-important question: how is history written, and by whom."

The winners of both the MJ Long and Moira Gemmill Prizes will be announced during this year’s W Lunch held on Friday, March 3rd, from the Battersea Arts Centre in London.
