Generative Futures: An AI + Architecture Storytelling Challenge is open for submissions

By Bustler Editors|

Friday, May 5, 2023

Generative Futures: An AI + Architecture Storytelling Challenge, launched this week by Bustler and our sister site Archinect, is a new competition inviting architects, designers, students, and storytellers to imagine the future of architecture and the built environment through the lens of artificial intelligence.

As novel AI breakthroughs, technologies, tools, but also concerns are making headlines week after week, the challenge asks participants to dream up, reflect on, investigate, or critique our future reality (or unreality) in a rapidly changing world.

The brief invites story submissions comprised of text and images exploring one of the four themes: the AI-infused city, the AI-infused architecture studio, the AI-infused construction site, or, if your imagination lives beyond convention, define your own theme in our Open Category as your story relates to AI and architecture.

The competition seeks creativity and originality in submissions, welcoming various storytelling formats and genres, such as allegories, love stories, horror stories, diary entries, or data-driven predictions. The use of AI tools to assist in generating submissions is not only allowed but encouraged. Entries will be judged based on creativity and originality (50%) and impact and relevance (50%).

Our stellar panel of judges includes leading figures from the world of architecture, design, entertainment, and art, including Refik Anadol (Media Artist, Director & Educator), Michael Begler (TV & Film Screenwriter, Producer & Showrunner), Kordae Henry (Filmmaker, Visual Artist & Educator), Sandra Manninger (Architect, Researcher & Educator), Laure Michelon (Architectural Technologist, Designer & Educator), and René Peralta (Architect, Author & Educator).

Prizes for the winners include a cash prize, Morpholio Trace and SketchArch Pro app subscriptions, and publication on Archinect's and Bustler's editorial and social media platforms.

The challenge is now open for submissions until Monday, June 12th, with the announcement of results scheduled for June 30th.

For more information, head to the competition brief here on Bustler.
