The Harvard Graduate School of Design will launch the third edition of their $100,000 Wheelwright Prize travel grant next month. Originally established as the "Arthur Wheelwright Traveling Fellowship" in 1935, the prize was meant to extend travel-research opportunities to Harvard GSD alumni.

In 2013, eligibility expanded to any individual emerging architect who has graduated within the last 15 years from a professionally accredited architecture degree program. The open competition invites applicants who exhibit strong design talent, work of scholarly merit, and potential for continued creative progress.

For 2014, Jose M. Ahedo from Barcelona won with his proposal, "Domesticated Grounds: Design and Domesticity Within Animal Farming Systems", which focuses on architectural and organizational models of animal farming worldwide.

Emphasizing international research, winners of the prize are required to spend a cumulative minimum of 6 months outside of their countries of residence to conduct their proposed research, which must be done outside the United States.

Applications will be accepted online starting January 5, 2015. The registration deadline is January 16 and the deadline for all submissions is January 31 at midnight Eastern Standard Time.
