Design a sustainable retreat in Morocco! Morocco Oasis Retreat is launched!

Introducing the Moroccan Oasis Architecture Competition, a visionary architectural contest aimed at creating a multifunctional complex that honors the rich heritage and sustainable future of the Alaoui family's ancestral lands near Fes, Morocco. As the world becomes increasingly urbanized, there is a growing disconnect from traditional ways of living and the natural environment. This competition seeks to counteract this trend by promoting designs that integrate luxury, sustainability, and community engagement.

Participants in this competition are tasked with designing a space that not only serves as a home and retreat but also fosters a deep connection with the local community and environment. The challenge is to blend modern architectural practices with the traditional Moroccan aesthetic, ensuring that every design respects and reflects the historical significance of the site while incorporating innovative sustainability features.

The competition provides participants the freedom to choose how they interpret the site's potential, encouraging them to propose designs that reintegrate the local flora and fauna, utilize sustainable materials and energy solutions, and revive the communal and educational roles that the estate once played. The Moroccan Oasis Architecture Competition is more than just an architectural challenge; it is an opportunity to redefine how we interact with our cultural roots and natural surroundings in contemporary design.

PRIZES

3 winning proposals and 6 honourable mentions will be selected. Buildner will award a total of 10,000 € in prize money to competition winners as follows:

1st Prize - 7,000 €
2nd Prize - 2,500 €
3rd Prize - 500 €
+ 6 honourable mentions

The competition site is an extraordinary piece of land near Fes, Morocco, nestled in the picturesque rural landscapes that have been held by the Alaoui family for centuries. This enchanting location, chosen by Prince Moulay Abbas Alaoui for its serene beauty and distance from the political center, offers panoramic views, rich historical significance, and a profound connection to nature.
