A glimpse of the 2016 RIBA London Awards’ stunning shortlist

It's a new cycle for RIBA's London Regional Awards, as part of the Institute's mission to recognize top-quality design throughout the United Kingdom. Sixty-eight projects have been shortlisted, and from the photos alone, the designs look nothing short of stellar craftsmanship — particularly the smart combinations of fancy brickwork, glass, and greenery that help create enticing atmospheres.

In the coming weeks, one of four regional juries will visit the shortlisted projects for careful evaluations. The winners are expected to be announced on May 3, during a special awards ceremony at the University of Greenwich, Stockwell Street Building. While winning in the London Awards is already a great honor, they're just the beginning of RIBA's yearlong awards cycle. The winners in this competition will move on to compete in the RIBA National Awards. Then once the National Award winners are revealed in June, they will have a chance at being crowned the next RIBA Stirling Prize winner.

Below are a few of the shortlisted London Award projects that especially caught our attention.
