RIBA announces 2016 Stirling Prize shortlist

It's another step forward in RIBA's 2016 Best UK Building of the Year competition! Today, RIBA announced the six lucky shortlisters for the Stirling Prize. Chosen from the 2016 National Award winners, the projects will face off to win the UK's most prestigious accolade in architecture. The prize recognized the building that has “made the biggest contribution to the evolution of architecture in a given year,” according to RIBA President Jane Duncan. Last year, the prize went to the Burntwood School in Wandsworth, London by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.

A revamped historic library at Oxford, a gallery for Damien Hurst's private collection, and a major redevelopment of Elephant and Castles' 1970s Heygate Estate are among the shortlisters. We'll have to hang tight for now, as the Stirling Prize winner won't be revealed until October 6 at RIBA's headquarters in London.

Have a look at the shortlist right below. Which one do you think will win?

Commenting on the shortlist, RIBA President Jane Duncan said: “The shortlisted projects are each fantastic new additions to their individual locations — on an urban street, a city riverside, an estate regeneration, an historic city centre and a hidden part of the countryside — but their stand-out common quality is the inspiration they will bring to those who study, live, visit and pass by them, for generations to come.”
