Film Screening: Fare Luce

Thursday, Oct 19, 20171:47 PM — Tuesday, Oct 31, 20171:47 PMEDT

20 Green St. New York, NY, US New York, NY, US | 20 Green St.

FARE LUCE are two words that define the universe of Foscarini. “Fare”, meaning making, generating, creating in Italian; and “luce” means light, whether its referenced physically or as a concept, idea, a starting point or goal.

These words sum up Foscarini’s initiatives connected with discovery, research, a desire to understand, to share and reveal all about the essence of light. Part of this year’s Architecture and Design Film Festival (ADF) Short Films Walk,  Foscarini premieres  Fare Luce, a short film shot by Italian filmmaker Gianluca Vassallo and commissioned by Foscarini.

Set in the Italian island of Sardinia, the film chronicles daily moments of discovery of light. Capturing intimate scenes from the lives of 14 Sardinians, Vassallo shines a light on the hopefulness, possibilities, contemplation of their day initiated with their encounter with light. For the occasion, Foscarini has transformed its Soho showroom into a movie theatre.

“For us, FARE LUCE has become a slogan,” says Carlo Urbinati, President of Foscarini. “It expresses our essence: it sums up our working method, the path we are on. FARE LUCE means harnessing a fascinating material, like light, in forms that aim to inspire, to make their mark. And it also expresses our mind set, our drive to always seek new meaning to form the basis of our creative process.”

Vassallo's exploration of the theme was initiated as a way for the brand to share its passion for all forms of light through a creative outlet, and is part of the larger Fare Luce project and book. The book, edited by Beppe Finessi and published in April 2017, investigates the themes of light through architecture, design, art, graphic design, photography and illustration.
