Blue Dunes Book Talk on Resiliency and the Future of Our Coasts
Thursday, Feb 1, 20186 PM - 8 PMEDT
| Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place
New York, NY, USRelated
Members of the panel will discuss the recently published book Blue Dunes: Climate Change by Design as well as resiliency and coastal protection.
Blue Dunes chronicles a post-Hurricane Sandy proposal to create barrier islands centered on the New York/New Jersey Harbor to protect the coast from future storms and surge flooding. Working with scientists, engineers, planners, economists and maritime stakeholders, the authors and project team identified such key issues as habitats, recreation, navigation, constructability and funding. The speakers are the editors — Harvard GSD’s Jesse M. Keenan, PhD, and Claire Weisz, FAIA, of WXY architecture + urban design — as well as Langan’s Jonathan Goldstick, P.E., who worked on the concept. The moderator is author Karrie Jacobs, venue hosted by AIA New York Chapter.
