Speakers:
Andrew A. Beveridge, Ph.D., President and CEO of Social Explorer, is a Professor of Sociology at Queens College and the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. Since 1993, Dr. Beveridge has been a consultant to the New York Times, which has published numerous news reports and maps based upon his analysis of Census data.
Bettina Damiani joined the The News Guild of New York as a Local Representative after working for over a dozen years leading Good Jobs New York, a corporate subsidy accountability organization. During her tenure, the organization provided research and analyses to the Guild about New York’s allocation of taxpayer subsidies to New York City’s media industry. Bettina is an adjunct lecturer at CUNY’s Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies where she teaches public policy courses. She received her BA in Communication and Peace Studies from Manhattan College and a Master’s Degree in Urban Affairs from Hunter College. She is also a recipient of the 2006-2007 Revson Fellowship at Columbia University. She represents The Daily Beast, Kaplan, Time Inc., The Nation, Roosevelt Institute and Jacobin Magazine.
Ifeoma Ebo is an urban designer and strategist who strives to be a catalyst for social justice and design activism while addressing challenges of the urban milieu. As the Senior Design Advisor with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, she leads interagency design and built environment initiatives exploring the use of design to address public safety and social justice in marginalized communities across NYC. Ifeoma is a 2016 Forefront Fellow of the NYC Urban Design Forum and Next City Vanguard Fellow. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and a Masters in City Planning and Urban Design from MIT.
Daphne Lundi is an Urban Planner focusing on flood resiliency and climate adaptation planning. She currently works at the NYC Department of City Planning in neighborhoods in southern Brooklyn that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Before working for the Department of City Planning she was also an Environmental Planning Specialist for Pinchina Consulting where she worked on agroforestry and reforestation studies for a community-led planning project in Petit Goave, Haiti. Originally from Brooklyn New York, Daphne earned a B.A. in Sociology with a focus in Urban Studies from Wellesley College and an M.S. in Community and Regional Planning with from the University of Texas at Austin. A self-taught seamstress, Daphne is also interested in clothing construction and design.
Rafael Herrin-Ferri is a Spanish-born architect/artist living in Sunnyside, Queens. He received a B.Arch from Cornell University in 1996 and worked in several architectural studios in San Francisco and Barcelona before settling in New York in 2003. His longstanding interest in vernacular architecture led him to initiate an independent photographic survey in 2012 titled “All the Queens Houses”. The photographs have been published widely and were featured in a solo-exhibit at The Architectural League of New York in 2017. Rafael practices as a senior architect at Studio Joseph in Manhattan.
