Today we are seeing an incredible amount of innovation and ingenuity when it comes to how we get around. Electric and hybrid technologies have allowed us to reduce our carbon footprint while maintaining our autonomy. Developments in GPS help us navigate with ease and avoid traffic jams (most of the time…). However, as the population grows, so does the need for even better, faster, safer ways of moving around. What innovations will allow us to maintain our freedom of movement despite the pressures of population growth and limited resources? What cars will we drive in 2050? Rather, what cars will drive us? What choices will Californians make as we shape the transportation of tomorrow? From groundbreaking technology to automotive whimsy, The Ride will take you there in style – and In Person.
Join motor journalist Susan Carpenter and comedian Alonzo Bodden, hosts of KPCC’s The Ride, as they invite you to visit a transportation future that doesn't run on gas – and may even avoid traffic by flying over it. Full of forward-thinking discussions, demonstrations and debates, the evening will feature some of mobility’s most imaginative thinkers. We’ll examine the daring innovations and disruptive technologies of tomorrow’s transportation landscape with Ford Motor Futurist Sheryl Connelly, automotive invention expert Ashlee Vance and flying motorcycle inventor Dezso Molnar, just to name a few.
Are you curious about alternative power? Where do you land when it comes to flying or autonomous cars? Can Alonzo guess what you drive? At The Ride’s first-ever In Person event, Susan and Alonzo will share their passion for motors and movement as they do each week on KPCC’s new transportation podcast.
Guests:
Sheryl Connelly, manager, Global Consumer Trends and Futuring, Ford Motor Company
Ashlee Vance, bestselling author and feature writer at Bloomberg Businessweek
Dezso Molnar, pilot, fabricator, and inventor of the street legal aircraft, the "Molnar GT" Gyrocycle
