The one day public symposium will include eight presentations offering radical propositions about the nature of the modern and emerging interior in the context of the expanding disciplines of Interior Design and Interior Design History.
Keynote: Dr. Alice Friedman, “Touching Stories: Privacy and the Pleasures of the Interior” Grace Slack McNeil Professor of American Art and Professor of Art at Wellesley College, and celebrated author of Women and the Making of Modern House (Yale University Press 2007) and American Glamour and the Evolution of Modern Architecture (Yale University Press 2010), among others.
This year, the symposium is fortunate also to celebrate the recent publication of three volumes edited by Pratt faculty: Designing the French Interior: The Modern Home and Mass Media (Bloomsbury 2015); Textile Technology and Design: From Interior Space to Outer Space (Bloomsbury 2016); and Visualizing the Nineteenth-Century Home: Modern Art and the Decorative Impulse (Routledge 2016).
