Six firms have been announced winners in Shaw Contract Group‘s fourth annual Design Is… Award competition. The award recognizes inspirational and visionary design across the commercial interiors landscape. Participating projects had to feature Shaw Contract Group carpet as the predominant flooring in the space.
“The Design Is… Award program celebrates more than just beautiful spaces. We’ve captured 16 projects as finalists that surmount simple beauty to deliver innovative solutions, impacting the people who encounter the space and the functions that take place within,†says John Stephens, vice president of marketing. “Our finalists include projects by top firms from the corporate, healthcare, education and retail sectors, and the design community can help us select the People’s Choice winner by voting for the project that best represents what design is.â€
After evaluating more than 300 projects that were submitted for this year’s program, a judging panel of design experts narrowed down the field. The 2009 award jury included Douglas Giesy (design director with Gensler); Susan Gladden (senior consultant to Fanning Howey); Suzen Heeley (director of design & construction at Hackensack University Medical Center); Karen League (interior designer); Joey Shimoda (founder of Shimoda Design Group); and Cheryl Durst (executive vice president and CEO of the International Interior Design Association).
