THE CHALLENGE
The challenge for this competition is to design a contemporary Floating Toy Museum on the banks axis in central Amsterdam along with Science Center Nemo Centre, Arcam, VOC-ship (18 Century Cargo Ship) and National Maritime Museum.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COMPETITION
The objectives of “AMSTERDAM FLOATING TOY MUSEUM” Competition are as follows:
• Reward quality design solutions that respond effectively to the brief.
• Encourage architectural design solution and ideas that best respond to the location.
• Generate both functional and volumetric contribution to the site.
• Promote the design of a structure that take into context the site and topology.
• Stimulate the discussion of ideas regarding the intervention and construction on such a site.
COMPETITION STRUCTURE
This is a single stage Competition to identify the most appropriate and most consistent proposal in accordance to the general and specific objectives of the contest.
THE PROJECT:
The project is to design a FLOATING TOY MUSEUM in central Amsterdam along the Oosterdok canal bank side within the area of the Science Center Nemo Centre and Arcam to display up to 3,000 contemporary toys and also stage other temporary exhibitions.
ELEGIBILITY
Eligible for participation in the competition are:
• Architects, Graduates who have completed their architecture studies (including bachelors).
• Architecture students (under the direction of an Architect or course professor where possible, but not mandatory.
• Multidisciplinary teams may also take part in the competitions (designers, engineers, artist, etc.) as long as they have an Architect as Team Leader.
• Teams can only consist of a maximum of four (04) members.
PRIZES AND BENEFITS
1st Prize:
• US $ 2,500 (TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED US DOLLARS)
• Promotion on the Arquitectum website
• Possible Exhibition in London amongst other Arquitectum projects
• Promotion on our Social Media Network
• Recommended to a number of architectural magazines, blogs and websites internationally for publication.
2nd Prize:
• US $ 1,000 (ONE THOUSAND US DOLLARS)

3rd Prize:
• US $ 500 (FIVE HUNDRED US DOLLARS)

• One Registration per Proposal entry with participants allowed to enter more that one design with each allocated a different Registration Number.
