13th Promosedia International Design Competition

May 5 is the deadline for taking part in the 13th Promosedia International Design Competition, the contest for young talents who wish to test their skills in chair design.

Once again, under-40 designers from all over the world are called upon to express the originality and functionality of the chair. Architects, designers, and students attending schools of architecture and/or design that wish to take part in the competition must submit their original and unpublished works by May 5 2009. Designs are expected to be creative and must be able to be manufactured and mass produced.
In particular, the competition encourages designers to use wood: a noble, natural and environmentally-friendly material, which is strongly linked to the traditions of the Industrial Chair District. The competition is open to designers under the age of 40 and each participant may submit only one design, either individually or in a group. The panel of judges evaluating the anonymous works will be comprised of influential representatives and opinion leaders from the world of design. They will award one 1st prize of 3,500 Euros and possibly up to two special recognition awards (500 Euros each as reimbursement of expenses).

The winning chair and specially-awarded chairs – if any – will have prototypes made, which will be included in the official catalogue of the competition and will be on display in Udine in autumn 2009.
