In the frame of the 90th anniversary of the Bauhaus, our non-profit organization émaho organizes the bauhaus lab marseille, an interdisciplinary laboratory in association with the Architectural Association (London), the C3 Center for Culture and Communication (Budapest), E-werk (Weimar ) TheaterHaus Jena (Jena), the city of Weimar and with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union 2007-2013.
The bauhaus lab marseille proposes an art residency inspired by Moholy-Nagy’s journey to Marseilles in 1929. His experimental film “Marseille Vieux-Port” will be the starting point for reflection led by artists during the residency. Marseille’s urban development, a contemporary reinterpretation of the Bauhaus and the interdisciplinarity will also be discussed. A lecture’s programme led by actors from different art fields, architecture and urbanism will feed this research process.
To stimulate exchange of ideas and interaction with local communities, the bauhaus lab marseille will offer an opportunity to each artist to conduct a multimedia workshop for young people under the supervision of professional trainers.
A final exhibition open to the public features the results of this reflection and creation time.
To host this event, the bauhaus lab marseille proposes to create a polymorphic space at La Friche de la Belle de Mai, the cultural centre of Marseille. An architectural competition is open to create this cultural travelling centre.
