Pure Creativity Competition

Register/Submit Deadline:  Thursday, Jan 1, 20097:55 AMEDT

Are you a budding design student who would love to see your design produced as a 3D object? Would you relish the chance to show industry experts your portfolio?

The design team here at mydeco devised this competition with Philippe Starck while meeting at his Paris office. We wanted to launch a competition that would break the current boundaries of design and creativity and would give young talent the opportunity to explore new ways of thinking and making.

Rapid prototyping technology provides the opportunity to cross the current limits of design, translating almost every concept into a three-dimensional form.

To win this competition you will have to create an innovative, intelligent and practical object that is inspired by the new opportunities created by three dimensional stereo lithographic technology.

The competition is open to design students worldwide, between the ages of 18 and 25.

What is the prize?

The winner will see his/her 3D model made into a prototype using the stereolithographic process with MGX. He/She will also win £1,000 cash and have the opportunity to get an article with Philippe Starck in IDFX magazine.

One of our main objectives at mydeco is to promote new talents and bridge the gap between young designers and the industry. Having built strong relationship with over 600 retailers, we can facilitate this process and provoke great opportunities.

With this mydeco/Philippe Starck/MGX award, we would love to recognise and reward promising creativity and flair.

How do I participate?

When you have read the requirements, you can start designing your project. The object you create has to be modelled using a 3D modelling software (3ds Max, AutoCAD, Maya, Rhino, Softimages XSI, LightWave, CATIA, SolidWorks…).

Once you are happy with your design, you will have to extract 2 renders and save them on mydeco by doing the following:

  * Create a mydeco profile by going to the mydeco.com homepage and clicking on “join mydeco” on the top right corner.
  * Enter the information requested.
  * On your profile, click on “Portofolio” and upload your project images into the “Photos” tab using the “Add new photos” button.
  * In the “Photo title”, enter “Pure Creativity Competition” followed by the title of your project.
  * In “Add more details”, describe your concept.

You will be judge strictly on the images and their descriptions from your mydeco profile.

To be sure you are on the participants list and in order for us to update you directly, please also email [email protected] and include your name, age, nationality, school/university and your profile name in this email.

You will have until the 31st of December to enter.

Philippe Starck, Naomi Kaempfer Head of MGX and the design team at mydeco will then select the finalists. The short-listed designers will be invited to visit the MGX factory in Leuven, Belgium with a Starck Network designer. There they will have the opportunity to learn and experiment with revolutionary technologies and meet the .MGX technical team to discuss their designs for optimisation using Magics software.

Following the visit, finalists will be given a month to modify and improve their design.

One winner will be selected and personally awarded by Philippe Starck.
