Award Overview
The Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) and Hunter Douglas® invite members of the Institute to use their imagination in a competition for the most creative use of Hunter Douglas products. In Singapore and worldwide, very creative and unusually attractive installations of Hunter Douglas products have been achieved due to the versatility and quality of products.
Alternatively, members can also participate In the Eco Friend Award, this new category highlights the creative use of sustainable products as building materials, but not necessarily confined to the use of Hunter Douglas products.
Categories of Award
There will be 2 categories as follow:
Eco Friend
Under this new created category for 2008, members may submit a enironmentally friendly design that highlights the creative use of any sustainable products as a building material, in such standard applications, all of which are typically possible with, but not necessarily confined to, the use of the Hunter Douglas range of products.
Completed Project
Under this category, members may submit a project that makes use of one or more products from the wide selection of Hunter Douglas ceiling, exterior cladding and sun lourve systems.
Prizes & Winners
Eco Friend Award
One grand prize winner under the Eco Friend category will get to choose 2 out of 3 attractive grand prizes offered. A trophy, winner certificate and also winner logo will be presented to the winner.
Completed Project Award
One grand prize winner under the Completed Project category will get to choose 2 out of 3 attractive grand prizes offered. A trophy, winner certificate and also winner logo will be presented to the winner.
Merit Prizes - The award organizers and judging committee reserves the right to offer (unspecified number of) submissions that are of exceptional qualities prizes that will include a trophy and a commendation certificate.
All winning entries will be published in the SIA magazine, “Singapore Architect†and Hunter Douglas Singapore corporate newsletter, “Make A Difference†(and other publications at the descretion of SIA and / or Hunter Douglas Singapore).
How to participate?
All SIA members are invited to submit projects for selection. There is NO entry fee. Member may submit as many entries as he or she wishes.
The submission must comprise the entry form, photographs and drawings of a project (Completed or Eco Friend), to be mounted on 3mm thick, A1 size board (maximum 2 boards). The submission must also consist of digital images (minimum of 6 and maximum of 12 different images and must be accompanied with captions) of the project with resolution of at least 400dpi to be stored in a CD.
The entry form, together with the CD of digital images, are to be submitted in a sealed envelope mounted behind the board. There should be no identification such as motto, logo or distinguished marks of any kind to reveal the member or architectural firm submitting the project. Where the project is carried out in association with another firm, due recognition must be accorded to the other firm. However, the participant must be the principal / main architect of the project submitted.
Judging Criteria
The main criteria are creativity and design, variety of products used, interfacing details and colour schemes. It is open to all types of buildings, whether it is a house, office, school or shopping complex, but it must be a completed project in Singapore under the Completed Project Category.
For the Eco Friend Category, the creative use and applications of sustainable products as building materials (may or may not be Hunter Douglas range of eco-friendly products) is also open to all types of buildings or structures.
The winners will be selected by a panel of well-qualified judges whose decision will be final. The panel of judges reserves the right not to award any prize, under any of the categories, should the entries, in their opinion, fail to meet the required standard.
