Design has never played a more important role in turning change into opportunity. Every day, Autodesk customers are recreating the world around us and how we experience it – from new and innovative processes to things never before seen. The Autodesk Gallery at One Market showcases some of that daring work and illustrates the ways an idea can become real. The Autodesk Gallery is a new exhibit that celebrates today’s design process. The exhibits illustrate stories of how things from aircraft engines to cathedrals, bridges, ice axes and cars go from a spark of inspiration to final creation. The Autodesk Gallery is the first in the area to show the role of software in great design, and is intended to be a space to foster conversations about design, to be inspired by design and to create collaboration. It is an interactive environment that explores the intersection of technology and innovative design by showcasing the works of Autodesk’s world-class customers and design associates. The duration of the exhibits will vary—some projects will rotate annually, but a few projects may become more permanent. The exhibits illustrate how things were made using software from Autodesk and others. In addition to serving as a showcase for design, the 16,500 square foot state-of-the-art gallery will serve as a gathering place for Autodesk customers, as well as for the design community in general. Events and educational programs will be staged at the Gallery to foster and encourage conversations about the relationship between technology and design. Starting October 1, 2008, it will open to the public on the first Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Gallery itself makes a statement about the urgent need for sustainable design. The facility has been submitted for a LEED Platinum CI certification. For example, 90 percent of the Gallery utilizes daylight, the construction of the gallery utilized 20 percent recycled material and all lumber is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
