Bruce Kuwabara of KPMB Architects Lecture and Reception May 7, 5:30 pm AIA San Francisco, 130 Sutter Street, Suite 600, San Francisco Register at www.aiasf.org/registration. Bruce Kuwabara is the 2006 recipient of the RAIC Gold Medal for Architecture. He has directed the majority of the firm’s competition-winning schemes, including the Vaughan Civic Centre, the Canadian Embassy in Berlin (a joint venture with Gagnon Letellier Cyr, architectes, and Smith Carter Architects + Engineers Inc.), and Le Quartier Concordia for Concordia University in downtown Montreal (a joint venture with Fichten Soiferman et Associés Architectes). Current projects include the Manitoba Hydro Corporate Headquarters in Winnipeg, which was highly commended for innovation by the 2006 MIPM/ Architectural Review Future Projects Awards program, a 690,000 s.f. building targeting 60% energy savings and LEED Gold rating. Bruce has taught at the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto and is the Honorary Co-Chair for Fundraising responsible for establishing the Frank Gehry International Design Chair. He has also taught at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. In 2005, Bruce was appointed the first chair of the Waterfront Design Review Panel for the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation. He continues to participate as a jury member, guest lecturer and critic on issues of architecture, urbanism and sustainable design.
