The DOMES International Architecture Review is holding the "Room 18" Pan-European Design Competition with the interior of a typical hotel room, 18m2 as its subject.
Detailed information in connection with the Competition and the terms of entry: www.room18.gr
Competitors are called upon to propose new ways of creatively re-interpreting and transcending the official specifications for a hotel room in response to the likely wishes and expectations of the contemporary traveller. The aim of the competition is the exploring and reviewing of the givens in place in the tourism sector by means of creative interaction between the hotel and the broader architecture branch.
Architects, interior designers, decorators, stage-set designers, composers of art installations, and creative artists in any branch are entitled to take part.
Within the framework of the Competition, three cash prizes and six honourable mentions will be awarded. The three prize-winning entries realised in their actual dimensions (scale: 1/1) will be exhibited in the Room 18 exhibition (Benaki Museum, Athens - Greece 23/11 -11/12). All the rest of the proposals, together with design and illustrative material, will also be on show in the Exhibition.
The Competition will end on 4 July.
The submission of entries starts on 21 April.
- reduced fee (early bird): 40€ from 21/04 to 30/05
- normal fee: 70€ from 31/05 to 27/06
In parallel with the holding of the Exhibition, the Excursus, an open internet blog on Greek tourism, centring on the architecture of hospitality, will be created. Its aim is the briefing and sensitising of those interested, who can contribute to the formation of the Excursus by sending relevant material to firstname.lastname@example.org. A necessary precondition for publication is reference to the source.
After the conclusion of the Competition, a special bilingual (GR & EN) volume containing a selection of the entries in the Competition, brief texts by the Award Committee, and essays in connection with the Greek hotel branch, will be published.
The DOMES International Architecture Review, through its multi-faceted activities, serves as a point of contact between Greek and international architectural reality. Its aim is the briefing of Greek architects and the broader public with such interests on the latest trends in architecture internationally, but also on the promotion of Greek architectural production throughout the world. Room 18 is the fourth Pan-European Competition held by DOMES.
