Adelaide Creative Community Hub

Registration Deadline:  Thursday, Aug 24, 201711:59 PMBST

Submission Deadline:  Thursday, Sep 14, 201711:59 PMBST

What makes a ‘creative city’? And what capacity does architecture have to foster, inspire, or use to celebrate creativity within an urban environment? These questions are part of a growing discussion in Adelaide, Australia, surrounding what the city could be, and how to make Adelaide a more creative, vibrant, and innovative place to live

The Adelaide Creative Community Hub competition is a partnership between Bee Breeders and the SA Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects. This competition seeks to explore the possibilities for architecture to act as a stimulant - generating exciting public spaces that help establish a creative environment/atmosphere in the city of Adelaide.

Participants are welcome to design a permanent building, or temporary and transportable urban element that would facilitate a specific set of functions. It could also be used to accommodate a group of people who provoke and evoke creative events that would support Adelaide in its efforts to becoming a truly ‘creative city’.

The proposed competition site offers a unique opportunity to combine the busy streetscape with the open parkland of Victoria Square - Adelaide’s largest and busiest public square. The square transforms periodically to host a wide variety of festivals, events and installations of varying scale throughout the year.

The SA Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects are keen to see the best project designs from around the world, and would consider discussing with the winning authors the possibilities for future collaboration. The winners and selected entrants will have their entries displayed to the public during Adelaide’s upcoming Festival of Architecture and Design, planned for October 2017.

ELIGIBILITY:

Competition is open to all. No professional qualification is required. Design proposals can be developed individually or by teams (4 team members maximum).

PRIZES:

3 winning proposals, 2 special awards and 6 honourable mentions will be selected. Bee Breeders will award a total of US $6,000 in prize money to competition winners as follows:

1st Prize - US $3,000
2nd Prize - US $1,500
3rd Prize - US $500

+ 6 honourable mentions

Student Award - US $500
Festival State Award - US $500
