Consider the buildings that surround you, their lasting strength and permanence. Now consider their vulnerability, how time and nature slowly erodes all what we build that parallels our own human experience. What stands strong and healthy one moment can be brought down so unexpectedly. We want to engage in conversations about how we can ensure a healthy life by embracing the fleeting nature of evolution through our relationship to architecture and to each other.
Whether a survivor, a daughter, a friend, a sister or a mother – we’re looking to see you display creatively the effect of breast cancer has had on you. The success of your submission will rely on how well you can identify and show breast cancer’s impact on your life and how it has inspired you as a young woman.
We propose to pair influential female design mentors together with 10-15 young Canadian architects, artists, and breast cancer survivors to design five installations exploring the parallel of both the vulnerability and strength of women and architecture. These installations are to be unveiled at the opening gala, and showcased at the Royal Ontario Museum for the duration of the festival.
Submissions are not restricted in terms of medium, and we ask for heartfelt and honest pieces whether they be writing, photographic, sculptural or film. Once paired with a mentor, you will be working in a group of 3-4 people. You’re welcome to submit as a group or an individual.
Please check our website www.architextinc.com daily as updates will be provided throughout the
submission period.
