Mission Statement
From water town to water city, from suburb to urban, now the misty beauty of Jiangnan Watertown is faced with the collision or mergence problem because of the rapid development.
Through inheriting the history and absorbing new concepts, the competition is to discuss the renovation of Jiangnan Watertown, to create a new urban space with its local culture, to find the ideal form of eco-friendly city planning and architecture.
From here, we leave numerous spaces for designers to create.
1. Competition Site:
Two focus sites in 2 Km2 area of Qingpu New City’s West Region
A. Xidayinggang Bridge and the surrounding area, and the two sides of Dianshanhu Avenue
B. Central park and Dianpu River band
*See details in the Site Plan (in “Competition Materials”)
*Please choose one of the sites above to do the conceptual urban design.
2. Content:
Designers should follow “The General Local Plan of Qingpu District†and “The General Plan of Qingpu New City” (you can find it in the DOWNLOAD) as a basis and principle. If have any essential or important changes, reason or specific renewed planning should be explained and submit accordingly.
Keep the existing architecture volume, main and secondary road frame, planning projects (Dianshanhu Avenue, Xidayinggang Bridge)unchanged. Sub-road framing, green space system and the open proportion of the architecture’s footprint area can be optimized at principle of being more extensible and continuity of the urban space, and the best way for people’s activity orientation, as well as able to make the best advantage of the waterfront view value of this region.
Designers should take fully consideration of Qingpu’s local culture background and its historic texture; combine the existing site identity with the region’s future development strategy, to create a developing concept of urban space morphology and a featured urban identity that is correspondingly within the competition’s design scope.
3. Design Challenge:
How to show Qingpu’s unique landscape and cultural characteristic in design?
How to interact the greens, water and ecology with urban activity in design?
How to connect the neighbor area and shape the city brand of Qingpu New City?
Use which landscape (architecture, public space …) to create the local characteristic?
