Design for Dignity: Changing The Housing Equation By Design
Friday, May 6, 20168 AM - 4 PMPDT
| INNER-CITY ARTS, 720 Kohler Street
Los Angeles, CA, USRelated
Los Angeles has evolved into a creative, productive, world-class city. Yet, currently, LA is experiencing a severe housing shortage, and has become one of the least affordable places to live. As a consequence, over 44,000 people in the Los Angeles County sleep nightly without shelter.
Since the delivery of shelter as a fundamental human need is literally embedded in the architecture profession’s DNA, now, more than ever before, is the time for architects and designers to come together to explore the problem in depth and identify strong, workable solutions to solving our housing crisis.
The Los Angeles chapter of The American Institute of Architects (AIA|LA), will convene a forum of thought-leaders on May 6th, to develop actionable steps that will ameliorate this epidemic. This is not a conference – but a congress!
During the morning session, individuals with a wide-range of perspectives will present multidisciplinary solutions and ideas: sociologists, housing developers, veterans, builders, innovators and architects, as well as, those who have first-hand experience of what it’s like to be homeless. During the afternoon session, guided by expert facilitators, we will all work together to develop a consensus on positive real steps forward, and develop benchmarks that initiate positive change for our region, our city and our most precious resource – our people!
Join the AIA|LA for a day devoted to solutions as we work together to design for dignity.
