In 1996, Congress passed several immigration laws, including the Illegal Immigration Reform & Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA), which facilitated the detention and deportation of immigrants and generated opposition from immigrants-rights activists. On the occasion of this 20th anniversary, activists have mobilized to decry these policies anew. Join our panel of grassroots organizers and scholars to discuss how this highly debated and close-to-home issue has inspired one of the most significant activist movements of the twenty-first century, both in New York City and across the country.
