The School of Architecture welcomes Professor Yung Ho Chang, AIA. Professor Chang is the Head of the Architecture Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Founding Head of the Graduate Center of Architecture at Peking University. In addition he is the Founder and Principal at Atelier Feichang Jianzhu (FCJZ) in Beijing. Professor Chang has been a practicing architect in China since 1992 and established Atelier FCJZ in 1993. He is the recipient of numerous prizes including First Place in the Shinkenchiku Residential Design Competition in 1987, a Progressive Architecture Citation Award in 1996, the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts in 2000 and the Academy Award in Architecture from American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2006. To date, he has published seven books and monographs including one in English and French entitled Yung Ho Chang/Atelier Feichang Jianzhu: A Chinese Practice and one in Italian entitled Yung Ho Chang: Luce chiara, camera oscura. Chang has participated in many international exhibitions of art and architecture, including Street Theater, Apex Art, New York, 1999; Kenzo Tange Exhibition, Harvard University Graduate School of Design, 2002; Camera with Wang Jianwei, Yang Fudong, Museum of Modern Art, Paris, 2003; Work of Seung H-Sang, Yung Ho Chang, Gallery MA, Tokyo, 2004; four times in the Venice Biennale since 2000, Develop- Architecture of Yung Ho Chang / Atelier FCJZ, MIT, Cambridge, 2007; Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 2008. Professor Chang has taught at various architecture schools in the US and China; he was the Kenzo Tange Chair at Harvard in 2002 and the Eliel Saarinen Chair at Michigan in 2004. Examples of Yung Ho Chang’s work include: Xishu Bookstore, Beijing; Morningside Center for Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, Villa Shanyujian, Beijing; Split House, Commune by the Great Wall, Beijing; Hebei Education Publishing House, Shijiangzhuang; Villa Shizilin, Beijing; Jishou University Mixed-use Building and Huang Yongyu Art Museum, Samho Building, Paju, Korea; UFIDA R&D Center No.1, Beijing. Originally from Beijing, Chang received a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1984. Lectures are free and open to the public. They are located in the Gin D. Wong, FAIA Conference Center, Harris Hall, on the University Park campus. No reservations are required. Parking is available on campus at Gate 1 off Exposition Blvd. USC School of Architecture
