This exhibition features the work of: Bittertang (Michael Loverich & Antonio Torres), New York, NY; Bureau Spectacular (Jimenez Lai), Chicago, IL; CAMES/Gibson (Grant Gibson), Chicago IL; Design With Company (Stewart Hicks & Allison Newmeyer), Chicago, IL; Fake Industries Architectural Agonism (Urtzi Grau & Cristina Goberna), New York, NY; First Office (Andrew Atwood & Anna Neimark), Los Angeles, CA; is-office (Kyle Reynolds & Jeff Mikolajewski), Chicago, IL; Andrew Kovacs, Los Angeles, CA; Alex Maymind, Los Angeles, CA; Norman Kelley (Thomas Kelley & Carrie Norman), Chicago, IL and New York, NY; Point Supreme (Konstantinos Pantazis & Marianna Rentzou), Athens, Greece; SoftLab (Mike Szivos), New York, NY; SPEEDISM (Pieterjan Ginckels), Brussels, Belgium; and Young & Ayata (Michael Young & Kutan Ayata), New York, NY. Jimenez Lai is the founder and leader of the architecture firm Bureau Spectacular. He holds an MArch from the University of Toronto. Previously, Lai lived and worked in a desert shelter at Taliesin and resided in a shipping container at Atelier Van Lieshout, on the piers of Rotterdam. In the past several years, Lai has built numerous installations and has exhibited his work and published widely. His installation White Elephant is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Lai’s first manifesto, entitled Citizens of No Place, was published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2012 with a grant from the Graham Foundation. Draft II of this book was archived at the New Museum as a part of the show Younger Than Jesus. Lai is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Architectural League Prize for Young Architects (2012) and the inaugural Millennium BCP Lisbon Triennale Début Award (2013), among others. In 2014, he was the curator and designer of the Taiwan Pavilion at the 14th Venice Architectural Biennale. Lai was previously assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is currently on faculty in the Department of Architecture and Urban Design at the University of California, Los Angeles. The exhibition runs through March 28, 2015.
