Jan & Tim Edler: ...featuring realities:united

Gin D. Wong, FAIA Conference Center, Harris Hall, 6:00 p.m. Under their label realities:united the Berlin based brothers & architects Tim and Jan Edler explore the borders of art, architecture and communication. In 2000 they founded realities:united in Berlin. All of their projects deal with issues of space, information, message and communications. In their lecture the brothers will show a selection of their work as it has developed over the last 10 years and explain how they are trying to save the planet. In 2003 they earned international recognition with their spectacular design of BIX, a communicative display skin for Peter Cook’s Kunsthaus in Graz. Since then they have been working on projects in Europe, Asia and the United States, and collaborating with renowned international architects including Coop Himmelb(l)au, Foster & Partners, Renzo Piano, Bjarke Ingels, MASS Studies and Nieto Sobejano. Their creative achievements have garnered numerous awards including the Hans Schäfer Preis from the Association of German Architects (BDA), the Inspire!Award from Deutsche Telekom and the Goldene Nagel (Golden Nail), the highest award given by the Art Directors Club. In 2009 their work will be honored with the prestigious Kunstpreis Berlin 2009 (Art Prize Berlin) from the Akademie der Kunste in Berlin (Academy of the Arts Berlin). Their projects have been shown at numerous international exhibitions including the Venice Biannale for Architecture, the Vitra Design Museum, the new Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and the Swiss Architecture Museum. The brothers have taught at various institutions including the Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, the Technische Universität Berlin and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Until 2008 Tim Edler held a visiting professorship at the Hochschule fur Kunste in Bremen. Jan Edler studied architecture at the Technische Universität Aachen and at London’s Bartlett School of Architecture. Tim Edler studied computer science and architecture at the Technische Universität Berlin. Lectures are free and open to the public. They are located in the Gin D. Wong, FAIA Conference Center, Harris Hall, on the University Park campus. No reservations are required. Parking is available on campus at Gate 1 off Exposition Blvd. arch.usc.edu
