This edition of Bustler's curated picks of noteworthy architecture and design competitions features four calls seeking innovative proposals that reimagine London's Camden High Street into a vibrant, inclusive public space, wildfire rebuilding solutions for Los Angeles, forward-thinking work in the fields of interior design and product design, and ideas for the redesign of the Ancient Theatre of Ohrid in Ohrid, North Macedonia.

‘Square’ Camden High Street: A New Design Competition for Camden Town
Registration/Submission Deadline: Thursday, May 15, 2025

"The London Festival of Architecture, in collaboration with the London Borough of Camden, is delighted to launch ‘Square’ Camden High Street – a new design competition that invites architects, designers, and artists to reimagine a key stretch of Camden High Street as a vibrant, inclusive public space. As part of Camden’s ambitious trial pedestrianisation of Camden High Street, this open call seeks innovative proposals that breathe new life into the public realm, reflect the spirit of the area, and explore what a ‘square’ can mean in today’s urban context – spatially, socially, or playfully."

LA Resilient Rebuilding Cup
Registration Deadline: Friday, May 30, 2025
Submission Deadline: Thursday, July 10, 2025

"The Cup will galvanize entrepreneurs and innovators to create solutions to the difficult challenges faced by communities, businesses, and governments, helping LA to rebuild resiliently, reduce vulnerability to future wildfires, and serve as a model to the world. The final stage of the Cup will take place in Los Angeles on July 10, 2025 in front of a jury as well as an audience of investors and corporate partners. Up to $100,000 will be made. Finalists will have the chance to win cash prizes and access funding for piloting to demonstrate their innovations through piloting technologies and business models in fire-affected communities in the Los Angeles region. Additionally, select Cup participants will be invited to participate in LACI’s Incubation Program, which provides startups with comprehensive support services to bring their products to market."

FRAME Awards 2025
Registration/Submission Deadline: Tuesday, June 17, 2025

"FRAME Awards is an international competition and awards programme that celebrates and recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of interior design and product design. Organized by FRAME, FRAME Awards offers a platform for designers, architects, companies, manufacturers and creative professionals to showcase their innovative work and push the boundaries of design. Established with the aim of honouring excellence and fostering dialogue, FRAME Awards showcases the most remarkable and forward-thinking designs across various categories, including retail, hospitality, work, living, shows, institutions and product design including furniture, finishes, lighting and more."

UNESCO ANCIENT THEATRE: Valorising an Extraordinary Historical Heritage
Registration/Submission Deadline: Friday, October 10, 2025

"Projects will seek to unify the various elements of Ohrid's Ancient Theatre through a cohesive integration of architectural and landscape features - materials, textures and spatial relationships - enhancing the overall sense of harmony within the site. Participants are invited to unleash their imagination and offer original responses to the specific needs of the site. Proposals ranging from conservative approaches to bold and innovative solutions will all be equally considered."
