Last week, Bustler reported that DawnTown, the annual international architectural competition for Downtown Miami, published a preview of all competition entries in a Flickr gallery just a few days before the official announcement of the winners on Friday, December 4.
Now the results are in, and the first prize goes to the team “office 247” (Rosalea Monacella, Craig Douglas, and Armando Oliver Suinaga) from Melbourne, Australia; the second prize goes to team “See you on Sunday*” (Saran Chaiyasuta and Prachaya Vanagul) from Bangkok, Thailand; and the third prize winners are team “DoubleKatya” (Ekaterina Mikhaylova and Ekaterina Vasilieva) from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. An Honorable Mention has been awarded to WestonWilliamson, Chris Williamson from London, England.
This year’s competition sought creative architectural ideas for a new station for the Metromover, Downtown Miami’s elevated public transportation system. The site for this station is located at the north edge of Museum Park, next to Biscayne Bay and between the future home of Miami Art Museum and Miami Science Museum.
The 2009 jury included Harpal Kapoor, Director of Miami-Dade Transit; Luis Revuelta, architect; Terry Riley, architect; Mera Rubell, Rubell Family Collection; Dennis Scholl, Miami Program Director of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation; and Gillian Thomas, President of the Miami Science Museum.
And here are the winning proposals:
